APS Microinverter Vs Our I'M SOLAR Inverters

Which microinverter should I choose?

A microinverter is an essential device in a solar installation. Unlike traditional inverters, each microinverter is installed directly beneath a solar panel to optimize its individual output. This technology offers numerous advantages, such as better shading management, increased efficiency, and precise performance monitoring.

Microinverters from brands like APS and I'M SOLAR are renowned for their efficiency and reliability. Notable models include the APS DS3 microinverter and the I'M SOLAR HMS-800 microinverter, which stand out for their performance and technical features tailored to various needs.

Advantages of the APS Microinverter

Advantages of the I'M SOLAR Microinverter

With a maximum efficiency of 99.5%, the DS3 is as efficient as the I'M SOLAR HMS-800, minimizing energy losses.

With an MPPT range of 25V to 55V and an open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 60V, the APS inverter can adapt to a wide range of solar panels, from 255Wp to 550Wp.

With a weight of 2.7 kg and dimensions of 260 x 188 x 31.5 mm, it is lighter than the HMS-800, making installation easier.

Like the HMS-800, the APS DS3 inverter is equipped with two MPPT trackers, allowing better solar panel management in cases of partial shading or different orientations.

With a maximum efficiency of 99.5%, the I'M SOLAR HMS-800 inverter, like the APS inverter, has one of the best efficiencies on the market, even on partially shaded installations.

The presence of two MPPT trackers allows for better management of solar panels with different orientations or sunlight levels.

Capable of handling panels up to 600 Wp, it is ideal for installations using high-power photovoltaic panels.

The I'M SOLAR HMS-800 microinverter enables precise real-time monitoring of energy production and consumption. Thanks to its advanced connectivity (Wi-Fi & Ethernet), it easily integrates with home automation and smart energy management systems, offering you optimal control to maximize self-consumption and reduce your electricity bill.

Disadvantages of the APS Microinverter

Disadvantages of the IM SOLAR Microinverter

With an output power of 730W, it is below the 800W of the HMS-800, which may impact overall production on large installations.

The APS DS3 microinverter uses a specific connection system compatible only with APS, meaning you must purchase the APS cable separately to connect multiple microinverters together.

Although I'M SOLAR offers high-performance and innovative microinverters, the brand remains less popular than APS, which has a more established recognition in the photovoltaic market.

Microinverters are generally more suitable for small to medium-sized residential or commercial installations.

How does the microinverter work?

A microinverter is a device installed directly beneath each solar panel that converts the direct current (DC) produced by the panel into alternating current (AC) that can be used by electrical appliances. Unlike centralized inverters, microinverters operate independently, optimizing the performance of each panel, even in cases of shading or dirt. Popular models like the APS DS3 or the I'M SOLAR HMS-800 also integrate advanced technologies, such as MPPT tracking, to maximize energy efficiency.

Why choose the I'M SOLAR HMS-800 ?

The I'M SOLAR HMS-800 microinverter offers several notable advantages over other brands, such as APS. While the APS DS3 microinverter is a solid option, the I'M SOLAR HMS-800 stands out with its higher input power (up to 600W per panel), its extended 10-year warranty, ensuring superior quality and long-term reliability. Moreover, with a maximum efficiency of 99.5% and the ability to handle high-power panels, I'M SOLAR is the ideal choice for those seeking optimal and durable performance.

How easy is it to install ?

At I'M SOLAR, we design our devices to make them as accessible as possible for everyone. Whether you are an individual or a solar professional (solar panel distributor, solar inverter reseller), these solar products are suitable for all. We provide installation videos, installation manuals, and most importantly, configuration manuals to make the installation process as easy as possible.

Ensuring a proper installation guarantees the best long-term performance of our photovoltaic products. That’s why they were designed with the "Plug'n Play" concept. You open the box, unpack the inverter, and install it. It works seamlessly for the next 20 years without any issues.

What is the maximum input power?

At I'M SOLAR, we design our solar microinverters to offer great installation flexibility. The HMS-800 microinverter allows you to connect up to 600W of solar panels as input, offering a maximum input capacity of 4500W under ideal conditions. This means you can connect higher-powered panels without compromising the efficiency of your system.

I'M SOLAR photovoltaic panels are defined with standardized nominal power ratings (at 25°C and 1000W/m² of solar radiation), conditions typically occurring on cool and sunny days, such as in May or October. Outside of these periods, panels are often warmer or less exposed to sunlight, which can reduce energy production. However, even in these conditions, the HMS-800 inverter remains capable of handling an input power of 4500W without compromising long-term performance.

It is important to note that there is a misconception that higher input power could harm the inverter's performance. This idea is incorrect. Our microinverters are specifically designed to support maximum loads and ensure optimal efficiency throughout their lifespan.

How to connect a microinverter?

We design our devices to make them as accessible as possible for everyone. Whether you're an individual or a solar professional (solar panel distributor, solar inverter reseller), these solar products are suitable for all.

What is the warranty duration?

A warranty is made to not be used. That’s our observation. That’s why we design our 800W solar panel microinverters with the highest quality manufacturing in our factories. Their lifespan ranges between 15 and 20 years (depending on usage conditions).

By using transformerless microinverters, we avoid premature aging over time. No mechanical parts are in motion, so there’s no risk of breakage. Designing our products with this philosophy ensures the best long-term performance.

We currently offer a 10-year warranty on any defects. This means that within this period, if you encounter a defect, error message, alarm, or flashing LED, we take care of everything. It is important to ensure that you’ve performed a full check-up of your solar installation beforehand. Key steps include:

- Measure the voltage and current of the solar panels
- Check the connection to the inverter’s grounding
- Ensure that the electrical protections are active
- Verify that the photovoltaic panels are correctly connected
- Check that the solar connectors are properly plugged in
- Restart the inverter

A checklist is available in the inverter setup manual, where you can find the actions to take based on the defect.

If, despite following this procedure, you cannot resolve the issue with the inverter, you can contact us to schedule an appointment with a technician. Through our app, we can intervene remotely to fix the issue, correct the defect, and we will replace the unit free of charge, covering transport fees in case of an unresolved failure.
